ANCESTORS PLAYED PROMINENT ROLES IN GEORGIA'S HISTORY
I am a native of the south and have lived in Marietta all of my life. My southern roots are traced back to ancestors that arrived in Virginia prior to the Revolutionary War. They migrated to Georgia. During the Civil War, my great, great grandparents’ home served as a hospital for the wounded from the battle at Chickamauga. My great, great grandmother nursed the wounded in her home, and many stories were passed down from generation to generation. The house, known as The Napier House, was built in 1836 and still stands today. My parents retired to that tranquil North Georgia farm upon my father’s retirement from Lockheed. A State of Georgia Historical Marker in front of the home honors my ancestors (Marker #023-11).
Another relative is my great, great uncle, General John B. Gordon, who served as a Senator and Governor for the state of Georgia. A statue of John B. Gordon, riding
